On March 5, 2020 Mayor Pete Hess, Police Chief Steven Hunt, and Fire Chief Ellen Murray met jointly with Emergency Management Director Fran Dambowsky regarding the community’s response to the COVID-19 (Corona Virus). The meeting included community stakeholders, concerned citizens, and health officials such as Naugatuck Valley Health Director Jess Stelmaszek and Dr. Peter Jacoby of St. Mary’s Hospital.
On March 9, 2020 the Unified Command Team participated in Governor Lamont’s Statewide Conference call for all Municipalities, regarding COVID-19. The team has discussed the recommendations presented during the conference call, including protocols for emergency responders and recommendations for public gatherings.
The message our leaders would like to express to the community is that we are all monitoring the virus closely but the reality is that the regular flu season precautions are the best safeguards. Please ensure frequent hand washing, staying home at the onset of cold-like symptoms, and avoid hand shaking.
We would also ask that community members check the town’s website ( http://www.naugatuck-ct.gov/) to see if services can be obtained electronically or by phoning town offices rather than appear in-person. Also, please utilize the Tax Office’s mail-in tax payment option or the Tax Office’s drop box located in Town Hall. The Police Department’s Records Division will disseminate forms and/or records after a request by phone or email.
Thursday’s Naugatuck High School boys’ basketball game has been canceled by the CIAC (https://ciacsports.com/site/). We would like to emphasize that there have been no reported instances of COVID-19 in Naugatuck at this time.
Our first responders will take additional steps to ensure any persons with symptoms are closely screened. The community should monitor our press releases and check in with the Naugatuck Valley Health District website ( http://www.nvhd.org/) on Facebook @naugatuck valley health district as well as the CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) for updates and accurate information.
In an effort to keep current with the events pertaining to COVID-19, Naugatuck’s Unified Command Team will continue to keep in touch with our regional and state partners and will meet daily to discuss the needs of the residents of Naugatuck.
