Snow Removal

To report snowy / slippery conditions residents can call the Public Work's Office at 720-7071 Monday to Friday 8 AM to 3:30 PM. After those hours, during a winter storm, call the Public Works Garage directly at 720-7070.If there is a winter storm emergency and no crews have been dispatched please call the Police Department at 720-5222.

Snow Plowing: Naugatuck's streets are plowed with a combination of Borough trucks and private contractors. Each section of town has a crew assigned to it, trucks are always dispatched to the hills and to the areas of town with higher elevations first, as it begins to snow.

Mailbox Repair Policy
Effective Date: 12-18-09

Responsibility - The Department of Public Works shall be responsible for the repair of mailboxes and posts only if the mail box has been damaged by a Borough vehicles or plow actually leaving the road and making contact with the box or post causing damage.  The Borough of Naugatuck will not  replace a mailbox if it is struck by a plow because it was constructed without adequate clearance from the edge of the road. Mailboxes must be located at least six inches from the edge of the road.

The Borough of Naugatuck will not be responsible for mailboxes damaged by flying snow and/or ice from plows while performing road clearing activities. The Town will also not be responsible for damage to mailboxes and posts that are rotted, rusted or improperly constructed. It is the responsibility of property owners to install and maintain mail boxes and posts in a condition that can withstand flying snow and ice.

Upon request, the Department of Public Works will review the damage and perform warranted repairs. 

Mailbox repairs or replacements will be made using standard pressure treated wood posts and standard metal box. Expensive decorative mail boxes that are damaged and for some reason cannot be replaced with a standard box and post will be referred to the Public Works Office.

Winter Sidewalk Maintenance: Residents are responsible for shoveling all sidewalks in front of their property. Residents must clear their sidewalks within 6 hours of the completion of the storm. Residents will be charged if Borough crews have to clear sidewalks in front of personal property. Naugatuck Park & Rec. Department are only responsible for sidewalks adjacent to Borough property.

Snow Shoveling: Borough ordinance prohibits residents from shoveling or plowing snow into the street from their property.
