Social Services Network

Jill Mahoney, co-chair, jill.mahoney@naugatuck.k12.ct.us

Purpose:

The Naugatuck Social Service Network is a collaborative coalition of social service and medical providers, clergy and concerned citizens actively engaged in fostering a coordinated social service system of care to meet the various needs of the residents of Naugatuck.

Mission Statement:

To educate, advocate and foster a coordinated social service system of care for Naugatuck residents.

History:

In 2005, the Connecticut Community Foundation, Naugatuck Savings Bank Foundation and United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls provided a three year grant to assist in the establishment of a central social service entity in Naugatuck that would provide support and referrals to Naugatuck residents in need.  This grant was used to supplement funding from the Borough of Naugatuck so that the Borough could enter into a three year contract with Family Services of Greater Waterbury to provide oversight, staffing and support for this entity.

In conjunction with this initiative, Connecticut Community Foundation provided a grant to Family Services of Greater Waterbury to conduct a study of the existing social service network in Naugatuck to better understand resident needs.  This study was conducted by Donna Studdiford of On Point Consulting and “The Naugatuck Social Service Delivery System: An Overview” was presented to Borough officials and all interested local social service providers in winter 2006.

As a result of this presentation a group of local officials and providers formed a group to consider the recommendations suggested in the study.  On April 12, 2007 this group formerly met and began the process of creating the Naugatuck Social Service Network.
